It allows certain equipment, such as<br \/>\ndimmer racks, to operate from 3 power points if 3-phase power is not available.<\/p>\n<p>Logically you could assume you could draw 45 amps from 3 x 15amp<br \/>\noutlets. Not so, 3 phase equipment is designed on the assumption<br \/>\nthat each leg is out of phase by 120\u00f8 and so the neutral<br \/>\nnever has to handle more that one third of the total<br \/>\nload. Now, if each leg is on the same phase, the current<br \/>\nloads on the neutral will add (instead of cancelling<br \/>\nout) and therefore 3 x 15amp supplies will overload the<br \/>\nneutral return of a 3 x 32amp device by 50%!<\/p>\n<p>My advice: Keep the total load below the single leg<br \/>\ncapacity of your device.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Beware the 240V\u00a0to 3-phase adaptor!
